Introduction

Borneo is the 3rd largest island in the world and is in southwest Asia. the ecosystem in Borneo is mangroves, peat swamps, swamp forests and ironwood. Borneo is a beautiful country, but something like deforestation can lead to a lot of destruction. some things that deforestation is a big threat to is habitat loss and its impact on watersheds.

Habitat Loss

Habitat loss is a serious thing and has made a big impact on the Orangutans in Borneo. Orangutans are also called “umbrella species”, which means it is necessary for them to live a large forest to survive. With the deforestation in Borneo going on, soon there wont be a lot of forest left which means that there will not be a lot of orangutans left. Scientists say that over 26,000 orangutans habitats will be destroyed and the damage will be critical.

impact on watersheds

Borneo is a big island, and because a lot of the main big rivers are in the middle of it, looking after the forests is very important to make sure that the islands water supply is well. Also, by looking after the forests, we moderate the effect of droughts and fires and to help the lowlands stabilize economically and ecologically.
