Leonardo DiCaprio, an American actor increased awareness for the First Nations and indigenous people during his speech at the 73rd annual Golden Globes on Sunday night January 10, 2016.

DiCaprio won a Golden Globe as a best dramatic actor for his part in The Revenant and dedicated his award to the First Nations communities and indigenous people.

“I want to share this award with all the First Nations people represented in this film, and all the indigenous communities around the world,” DiCaprio remarked. “It is time we recognize your history and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people out there to exploit them.

I selected Leonardo because he is a highly recognizable actor in the film industry, and also for his role from the relevant, which is based on the indigenous peoples of the Dakota.

Mark Ruffalo

On March 17, Mark Ruffalo requested the Royal Bank of Canada to stop financing British Columbia’s Coastal GasLink Pipeline, remarking “climate change and First Nation’s rights.” Again, Indigenous people are being stereotyped as anti-resource, when in fact only a minority hold this position, as proven by the fact that all 20 First Nations along the line have approved the project.

I chose Mark Ruffalo as he is also a famous recognizable actor for his role in the M.C.U, and for also his speech on gas link pipelines for their ecological concerns and issues it will cause.
