Our solar panels are helping the bees!
ByDear Editor,
I think that a solar farm should be created in Ontario Canada, (or any other place solar farms are needed) because it could significantly help increase the bee populations across the county. The use of solar panels has slowly but surely increased in popularity over the last few years, and it doesn’t come as a surprise to why.
Solar panels are a great way to provide homeowners with their own source of “Green” electricity, while also reducing their energy bills. How ever the benefits they have to our environment is not yet well known. Firstly, the seemingly useless space under solar panels can create a wonderful habitat for our bees, while also creating clean energy at the same time. Brianna Barbu from Discover Magazine says, “Over the past few years, solar farm developers have increasingly been encouraged to transform the space underneath their solar panels into a safe haven for bees, butterflies and other endangered pollinators.” Space underneath the panels can be perfect places for bees of all kinds to call home.
Not only can solar farms be a great habitat for bees, but they can also create incredible biodiversity. With the help and planting of different wildflower species, more and more insects can call the ecosystem home. This is also a huge help for the bees because more insects means more food for bees, and more pollinators to help the wildflowers and create more resources.
In conclusion, solar panels can be a great resource that will benefit both us and the bees in more way that one. They create habitats for bees, bring wildflowers, attract insects and more, so I hope you will consider my idea for more solar panels to be built to help the bees that need it.
Sincerely,
Suleima W. L.
