Decline In Bee Population

The population of bees is dropping fast creating many problems in our ecosystems. The terrestrial system is highly affecting their decline. This ecosystem suffers the most because of how much it relys on plants for their production. Living organisms depend on bees and without them we would suffer largely. They have the responsibility to produce one-third of the world’s food supply. Their decline is a global concern because without them it harms the reproduction of plants and crops, which without them the amount of food for the living organisms shrinks. Without them the amount of diversity of produce would disappear, potentially having human nutrition to suffer. If their population keeps on declining we will lose the plants they pollinate breaking the food chain.

Long-term effects:

-Loss of food

-Cost of food rising

-No more crops

Why are they dying?

Bees die for many reasons, whether its natural reasons, but humans’ control most of what’s causing it. Pesticide use is one of the major causes of this. Farmers throw pesticides on their plants/crops getting rid of other bugs, but not realising that once the soil turns bad bees can no longer pollinate. When they do this the plants become poisonous to bees eliminating it. It’s very similar to the Charles Darwin theory. Bees live all around like on the ground, sides of houses and in/ on trees. When we take away their home but digging it up, demolishing it, and cutting it down, it limits the places where bees can live and find shelter to pollinate and produce. Air pollution is caused by natural and human ways, but regardless of if it was the number of factories there are, or natural gases there are, it still harms their abilities to stop sniffing the plants. The weather is also a main cause of their decline. When we have extreme rainfalls the bees and plants can be affected. Beekeepers throughout America have reported that the honeybee population declines around 30% every winter. Just in the winter there is a huge loss of bees and that affects how many bees there are in the spring and summer.

How can we help?

-When tampering with their habitat, remove them safely

-Plant more gardens

-Plant bee friendly plants

-Stop the use of pesticides

Bees might be small but they carry a lot of responsibility for all living organisms that keep us alive. Without them, we will all suffer more than most think. We need to save the bees before it’s too late.
