Mercury (elements of concern)
ByMy environmental concern is high mercury levels in fish. Majority of factories use mercury and as a result, inorganic mercury escapes into the water ways, microorganisms transform it into organic mercury which then clings to the proteins in fish, often in ontario the mercury will cling to clay in river beds and build up making it extremely difficult to be rid of.
Main elements related in this would be Mercury, oxygen, hydrogen, phosphorus, and carbon
Hydrogen- combined with oxygen the mercury suspends within the water ways to later cling onto something.
Phosphorus- combined with oxygen results in phosphoryl, which is one of the chemicals that links with mercury in your body, causing slow build up and eventually mercury poisoning.
Carbon- combined with oxygen results in carboxyl, which is another chemical in your body that links to mercury, eventually causing mercury poisoning.
Oxygen- combines with the chemicals giving mercury the ability to travel the waterways in cling onto proteins.
It’s important we understand these elements if we intend on filtering it out of systems and treating mercury poisoning in humans. The periodic table makes for a simple and useful tool for extending our knowledge on these chemicals, making treatments possible.
